Achieve more with local AI
The integration of local AI capabilities into devices like the Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch is transforming the way users interact with technology. On-device processing powered by the Qualcomm® Hexagon NPU enables fast, local results without excessive power consumption – opening new realms of productivity and creativity while maintaining exceptional battery life.
The dedicated Copilot key provides quick entry to Copilot and the new Quick Composer feature , enabling employees to streamline their workflow with intuitive commands and perform in-depth searches.
With a quick Win + mouse click (or Win + Q), Click to Do uses on-device models to locally analyze text or images on your screen and gives intelligent suggestions to help you in your workflow. Once analyzed, Click to Do provides recommended actions such as copy, share, open with another app, search the web, rewrite, blur background with Photo and more.[14]
Recall (preview)[15] captures snapshots of your desktop embedded with rich contextual information, enabling you to find almost anything that has appeared on your screen by describing the content in your own words. Thanks to the powerful NPU, Recall runs locally on the device. Captured snapshots are securely encrypted, stored on the PC and shielded by layers of Secured-core PC protection and the Microsoft Pluton security processor. Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security with biometric sign-in is required for proof of presence and to securely unlock Recall.
To streamline your workflow, you can launch a webpage, copy text, edit images, reopen the source document and more, right from the screenshot. This is especially powerful when working with Microsoft 365 apps like PowerPoint and Word. Now you can easily find that slide with the “person studying with a book” or get right back to where you left off in the agenda you were typing.
We’re focused on empowering businesses and individuals with control over their data, so Recall is turned off by default on individual devices, even when enabled by IT admins. IT admins can enable or disable Recall and snapshot saving via security policies in a device management solution like Microsoft Intune. Customers with enterprise licensing will have additional security policies available for Recall. To learn more about available transparency and controls for Recall, be sure to check out this blog.
Improved Windows Search[16] introduces semantic indexing alongside traditional lexical indexing. This allows users to search for local and hydrated cloud documents and photos, as well as settings using their language, enhancing efficiency and accuracy. Additionally, if you are a OneDrive for Business user, lexical search of dehydrated files will also be supported.
Coming soon through the Windows Insider Program (beginning in the Canary and Dev Channels), Microsoft Paint and Notepad will roll out support for Microsoft Entra ID. This update enables commercial customers to access AI features that were previously limited to consumers.
In Paint, Entra ID unlocks access to Cocreator, which generates images by combining a sketch and text prompt and Generative Fill, which adds new elements to selected areas of a canvas based on descriptive input. These tools help teams explore ideas visually and speed up creative workflows.
Support for Entra ID in the Photos app is expected later this year, bringing access to Restyle Image, which reimagines the look and feel of an existing photo, and Image Creator, which generates entirely new images from a text prompt. Together, these updates help organizations bring AI-assisted creativity into their workflows.
For developers and tech enthusiasts looking to integrate on-device AI functionality into their Windows apps, the Microsoft AI Dev Gallery includes over 25 interactive samples powered by local AI models. You can easily browse, download and run models from Hugging Face and GitHub, and it includes access to Windows Copilot Runtime APIs on supported devices like Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch. If there’s a sample that you’d like to integrate into your app, you can view the C# source code and export standalone Visual Studio projects with a single click.
Whether you’re a teacher seeking to inspire students, a business owner on the go, or a developer seeking to craft next-generation AI solutions, the Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch deliver the tools and performance to achieve more with local AI.
