May 7, 2025Update – May 2025: We’re excited to confirm that Miracast wireless projection is coming to Surface Hub 3 by the end of 2025. This addition will give customers even more flexibility in how they share and collaborate during meetings. More details will be shared closer to availability.
At Microsoft, our goal is to enable the future of work. Today, we’re pleased to share new capabilities coming to Surface Hub 3—support for Microsoft Edge and Miracast wireless projection. These enhancements are delivered by Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows and are designed to make collaboration on Surface Hub more seamless, flexible, and productive for organizations around the world.
Back in December 2023, we introduced Surface Hub 3 as the first all-in-one collaboration board running Teams Rooms on Windows. Since then, Surface and Teams engineering have partnered closely to deliver innovation grounded in customer feedback. Surface Hub 3 is the only touch board fully designed by Microsoft, enabling integrated hardware-software advancements like the ones we’re announcing today.
Access web apps, personal content, and browsing with Microsoft Edge
Customers choose Surface Hub 3 for its meeting-first design and collaborative tools—and now we’re adding Microsoft Edge to that toolkit. Users will soon be able to launch Edge directly from the Hub home screen and access Microsoft 365 web apps, tools like Copilot Chat, OneDrive, and third-party or line-of-business web apps unique to your organization.
Once signed in, your content is ready for use in brainstorming, editing, or presenting sessions. Edge also enables interactive features like real-time markup in PowerPoint—delivered with the secure, familiar browsing experience of Microsoft Edge.
Edge runs in Kiosk Mode to help maintain security and privacy on shared devices. Each session opens InPrivate, and selecting End session will close Edge and clear credentials and browsing history.
Edge sessions can also be shared directly into Teams meetings, allowing presenters to interact naturally while still monitoring meeting participants, raised hands, and chat via a compact Teams window.
Edge is coming to Teams Rooms on Windows touch boards—including Surface Hub 3—with preview targeting Q2 2025 and general availability expected in Q3.
Wirelessly share content with Miracast
Mobility is essential to today’s workplace. Employees often move between rooms and buildings—and they need to share content quickly, using whatever method fits their environment. Alongside wired sharing options such as center-of-table consoles, we’re excited to bring another highly requested capability to Surface Hub 3: Miracast wireless projection.
Miracast allows you to project your PC screen to Surface Hub wirelessly—then interact directly with the projected content using touch and pen input on the Hub. You can also share Miracast sessions into a Teams meeting for remote participants to see what’s on screen, creating a fully inclusive experience.
Together with Teams Cast and standard screen sharing, Miracast adds new flexibility for content collaboration with Surface Hub.
Miracast support is committed for Teams Rooms on Windows devices. Release timing will be shared soon.
Prepare for the transition to Teams Rooms on Windows
Edge and Miracast will be available to any up-to-date Surface Hub 3 or Surface Hub 2S that has migrated to the Teams Rooms on Windows platform. These announcements offer strong reasons to consider that transition now—especially as Windows 10 Team edition reaches end of support on October 14, 2025.
Learn more about flexible migration options in this blog post.
Thank you to our Surface Hub customers for your continued partnership. Your input continues to shape our roadmap and the evolution of hybrid collaboration with Teams Rooms. We’re excited for you to try these new capabilities and see how they’ll help unlock new ways of working in 2025 and beyond.
