Building a FinOps-Ready Azure Landing Zone: Infrastructure Foundations for Cost Optimization
May 8, 2025Troubleshoot the Azure Arc Agent in Azure using Azure Monitor & Log Analytics Workspace
May 8, 2025We are excited to announce that several enhancements to purchase-related data in Cost Management for Microsoft Customer Agreement (MCA) customers are now generally available. These improvements, rolling out by June, will provide more detailed and accurate information on reservations, savings plans, and third-party purchases from the Azure Marketplace.
Here’s what’s new…
Reservation and savings plan purchases
You can now see the billing subscription ID for reservation and savings plan purchases, making it easier to identify purchase owners for showback and chargeback purposes.
Service term dates
The servicePeriodStartDate and servicePeriodEndDate columns will now clearly indicate the term of the offer purchased, providing better clarity on the duration of your commitments.
If you’re using FOCUS exports, you’ll find these dates in the x_ServicePeriodStart and x_ServicePeriodEnd columns.
Cost comparison
Reservation and savings plan purchases now populate payGCostinBillingCurrency and paygCostinUSD fields. This allows you to compare your costs to retail prices in your billing currency or USD, giving you a clearer picture of your savings.
If you’re using FOCUS exports, you already have the ListCost in the billing currency. With this update you will start to see values populated in the x_ListCostInUsd column.
Monthly billing plans
For customers with monthly billing plans for commitment-based offers, the pricingCurrency and costInPricingCurrency fields will now display values for all installments, ensuring you have a complete view of your billing details.
If you’re using FOCUS exports, this only applies to the x_PricingCurrency column since all costs in the FOCUS dataset use the billing currency.
Marketplace purchases
We are adding support for tags for purchases completed via the Azure Marketplace. These purchases will also include resourceId, derived subscriptionId, and resourceGroupName, enabling more effective showback and chargeback. Please note that purchases from other Marketplace storefronts (like AppSource) do not support these fields.
If you’re using FOCUS exports, you will see these values in the ResourceId, SubAccountId, and x_ResourceGroupName columns.
Effective price display
The effective price for purchases will now be displayed in the Cost Management data, providing a consistent view of price points in the pricing currency.
If you’re using FOCUS exports, you will see this in the x_BilledUnitPrice, x_EffectiveUnitPrice, and ContractedUnitPrice columns.
Purchases for CSP customers
Customers of Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) partners will now be able to view purchases and refunds at the subscription scope, offering greater transparency and control over their spending.
