May 15, 2025Announcing the new Databricks Job activity in ADF!
May 15, 2025We are thrilled to announce that MongoDB Atlas is now available as an Azure Native Integration (in preview) within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem. This integration enhances the developer experience by combining the power and flexibility of MongoDB Atlas with Azure’s robust cloud infrastructure.
“MongoDB’s mission is to enable organizations to unleash the power of software and data, and by integrating MongoDB Atlas with the Microsoft Intelligent Data platform as an Azure Native Integration, we’re making it easier for them to do that,” said Olivier Zieleniecki, GVP of Worldwide Partners, MongoDB. “With easier MongoDB Atlas provisioning and unified billing, teams can frictionlessly scale, unlock real-time data driven insights, and accelerate their AI journeys with MongoDB Atlas and Microsoft Azure.”
MongoDB Atlas
MongoDB Atlas is a fully managed, flexible document database service that is optimized for scalability and performance. It allows developers to build modern AI-enabled applications faster with built-in security, rich querying, and data distribution across the globe.
MongoDB Atlas as an Azure Native Integration
The native integration of MongoDB Atlas with Azure enables developers to quickly create a MongoDB Atlas organization from Azure portal. Users can find the offering on Azure portal and Azure Marketplace.
Azure native integration of MongoDB Atlas with Azure is a joint solution developed and managed by Microsoft and MongoDB, designed to empower developers.
“The integration of MongoDB as an Azure Native Integrated Service marks a significant milestone in our strategic partnership. By uniting the power of MongoDB Atlas with the scale and reach of Azure, we’re enabling developers to build data-driven applications faster and more securely. This collaboration reinforces our shared commitment to delivering scalable, developer-friendly solutions that meet the demands of today’s most complex workloads.”
– Julia Liuson, President, Microsoft Developer Division
Key benefits
The integration brings many benefits to developers and businesses, including:
- Seamless Provisioning from Azure – Developers can create and manage MongoDB Atlas organizations directly within the Azure portal, without switching platforms.
- Unified Billing Management – Manage billing via Azure Marketplace, simplifying the financial management of your MongoDB Atlas resources.
- Enhanced Security and Compliance – Built-in security features to ensure data privacy and compliance with industry standards.
Creating a MongoDB Atlas Organization
You can find the details of how to create a MongoDB Atlas organization from Azure in the Microsoft Docs and MongoDB Atlas Docs. The below section summarizes the key steps to create an organization from Azure portal.
Discover MongoDB Atlas in Azure Services
- Search for MongoDB Atlas in the main search bar of the Azure portal and select it under Services. Alternatively, you can visit the Azure Marketplace to start the resource creation journey.
Complete the Azure resource configuration
This process will help you deploy a MongoDB Atlas resource in Azure which is similar to creating any Azure resource in the portal.
- Fill in the basic information like Azure subscription. resource group, region and resource and Atlas organization details.
- Review your details in the ‘Review + Create’ tab
- Click on ‘Create’
Once the resource is deployed successfully, a MongoDB Atlas organization will be created automatically. Click on ‘Go to Resource’ to view the deployed resource.
Congratulations! your Atlas organization is ready. 🙌
Configure your Atlas account
You can transition to Atlas organization from your Azure resource.
- Click on ‘Go to MongoDB Atlas’ which will re-direct you to account configuration page.
- If you do not have an Atlas account for your Azure email address, it will prompt you to set a new password.
- After setting it once, you can seamlessly transition to MongoDB Atlas with a single click.
Deploy a cluster
Once you are in your Atlas organization, click on Build a new cluster to deploy your first cluster. Once the cluster is deployed, you can monitor its performance, manage backups, and configure security settings from the MongoDB Atlas console.
Read more about creating and configuring your cluster in MongoDB Atlas on MongoDB Atlas Docs.
