Announcing the General Availability of the Azure Logic Apps Rules Engine
May 23, 2025About four years ago, Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) Kevin Yang realized that the community needed more dynamism and fresh faces and voices, and it’s important to give them the opportunity to appear in public; Since then, MVP Kevin Yang has shifted his focus from organizing technical community events to engaging with schools. This year, they were fortunate to host an industry dialogue event at National Taiwan University, one of the most renowned universities in Taiwan and around the world.
Event Highlights: For this occasion, they invited Microsoft RD/MVP Edward Kuo and Anna Yen, who have extensive expertise in the field of data governance, to participate in a panel discussion. The topic was The Current State of Cloud Technology in Enterprise Software Development.
Addressing the Technological Gap: Research often highlights the persistent gap between industry and academia, where real-world application and theoretical knowledge seldom align seamlessly. Bridging this divide, initiatives such as industry dialogue events can provide students with exposure to practical insights and create opportunities for deeper engagement through alumni networks and collaborative projects.
This is precisely where the value of industry dialogue events lies. First, these events allow industry leaders and executives to understand what future graduates are thinking and what they need. Second, they give students a clearer picture of the industry environment, the technologies they will encounter, and the gap between what they have learned and what is required in the field. This enables students to prepare in advance and helps reduce the shock of this transition.
Speakers’ Insights:
Anna Yen, shared that big data has become even more important in the AI era compared to the past. She emphasized that everyone working in information technology needs to be sensitive to data processing, as the power of AI is fundamentally built on the quality of data preparation.
Microsoft MVP & RD Edward Kuo, discussed how cloud technologies, tools, and AI are used in the high-tech manufacturing industry to support company operations. He covered the challenges faced by IT in manufacturing, explained why they can be more interesting than those in software companies, and shared his extensive industry experience. His insights gave students new views on IT in modern manufacturing.
Panel Discussion: The most important part of the event was the third sessiona panel discussion with industry speakers.
This event showcased the critical role of big data and AI in transforming cloud technology and enterprise software development. Industry experts emphasized the importance of aligning theoretical knowledge with practical applications, inspiring students to bridge the academic-industry gap. Through engaging discussions, speakers imparted valuable insights into data governance, cloud tools, and manufacturing IT operations, preparing students for challenges in modern tech-driven industries. These exchanges not only equipped students with essential skills but also fostered a deeper understanding of how to navigate their future careers.
Challenges and Opportunities: Each speaker then continued the discussion by exploring the challenges faced by newcomers during the current “vibe coding” trend. The speakers agreed that in the AI era, soft skills such as communication, self-learning, and problem-solving have become even more critical and will be key criteria for companies in their hiring processes. While AI can take over some technical tasks, this also means that engineers need an even deeper understanding of technology itself. Regardless of the perspective, students are facing new types of challenges.
Student Engagement: When the discussion turned to companies’ hiring standards, students began to participate and ask questions actively. Through these interactions, it was clear that many students felt uncertain about their future and position within the industry. This is precisely why the community’s focus in recent years has shifted to engaging with students in schools and empowering them with STEM education. If students aren’t interested in exposing to IT, they may not be aware of tech communities or be inspired to embrace technology career skills. To ensure the sustainability of these communities, reaching out to students early and helping them find answers to their questions is both meaningful and worthwhile.
In the end, the event concluded smoothly. Afterward, many students approached the speakers for in-depth discussions. It is hoped that events like this can truly benefit the participating students. This was an excellent opportunity for Microsoft MVPs and RDs to demonstrate their influence. It also allowed students to understand better how technology is applied in industry and how Microsoft technologies are utilized within enterprises.
