July 23, 2025Resilience in action for Windows devices
July 23, 2025Today’s mobile workforce needs connectivity, security, and productivity without compromise. The latest Surface Copilot+ PCs, including Surface Laptop 5G for Business, empower your teams to achieve more, anywhere. Engineered for mobile professionals who need secure, AI-accelerated, and connected devices, these devices are part of a broader strategy to support hybrid work with enterprise-grade hardware and a growing set of IT management and deployment solutions. This blog focuses on the technical capabilities that make these devices ready for business and highlights how Surface is evolving to meet the needs of commercial customers.
At Microsoft, our commitment to commercial innovation continues through sustained investment in Surface and the tools that support it. Check out the Microsoft Mechanics video below for a quick overview of how Surface Laptop 5G for business combines intelligent connectivity, ultra-fast performance, and premium design to elevate mobile productivity and support secure, remote scenarios.
Built for mobility, ready for business
Today’s teams work across locations, time zones, and devices. They need tools that keep up securely, intelligently, and without slowing them down. Surface Laptop 5G for Business brings together support for fast, reliable 5G, built-in AI acceleration, and modern management in a sleek Copilot+ PC designed for work on the move. This device is part of a broader platform approach to mobility, offering consistent performance, connectivity, and manageability across the Surface portfolio.
Surface Laptop 5G for Business combines a Copilot+ PC design with enterprise-grade connectivity and performance. Its antenna system is engineered for real-world mobility, featuring six 5G antennas and dynamic switching that adapts based on how the device is held or used. This design maintains strong signal strength whether employees are in the office, on the road, or working from home. With support for global frequency bands, it can even roam and stay connected when traveling across borders. We’ll dive into more detail on how these features enhance the experience below.
Surface Laptop 5G for Business delivers up to 20 hours of battery life,[1] giving employees the freedom to work unplugged through long days, travel, and meetings without interruption. Fast charging gets the battery to 80 percent in under an hour.[2] The aluminum chassis balances portability and durability at just over 3 pounds, making it a strong fit for hybrid and field-based roles. The anti-reflective PixelSense Flow touchscreen adapts to lighting conditions, helping employees stay focused wherever they work.
This device is designed for people who need powerful performance and exceptional mobility. Picture a healthcare coordinator seamlessly and securely accessing patient records when moving between clinics, a field engineer reviewing plans and capturing notes in OneNote at sites far out of reach of Wi-Fi, or a sales lead working from airports, client offices, and hotel lobbies, using Recall to quickly pick up where they left off on the device and then connecting to Microsoft 365 Copilot to interact with shared documents. Surface Laptop 5G for Business fits into these moments, keeping work moving without friction.
Deep design innovation for reliable connectivity
To achieve the slim, full-metal design of Surface Laptop 5G for Business, the engineering team developed a custom six-slot antenna system and enterprise-tuned 5G module. This architecture evolved from earlier, more complex layouts and was shaped by extensive user research on hand placement and proximity effects.
The antennas are embedded beneath a precision-engineered composite palm rest constructed from low-loss dielectric materials that minimize radio frequency (RF) attenuation while preserving the premium tactile experience and durability expected from Surface. Nano-Molding Technology (NMT) isolates the antennas from the surrounding aluminum chassis, maintaining RF integrity without compromising the device’s sleek, polished form.
Our engineering teams used Azure-powered digital twins to model hundreds of antenna configurations and optimize placement for real-world conditions. Surface Laptop 5G features Microsoft’s first custom-designed 5G module, delivering exceptional RF performance in an ultra-compact form factor. It features six 5G antennas with an integrated Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) antenna, including Global Positioning System (GPS), Galileo, Baidu, Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS), and Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC). The antennas were implemented using advanced tunable architecture in the metal chassis, incorporating innovative matching topology that ensures efficient impedance matching across a wide frequency spectrum.
Our Dynamic Antenna System continuously monitors signal quality and dynamically reroutes to a better-performing antenna as needed. This reduces interruptions in connectivity whether the device is in motion, docked, or partially obstructed by the user’s hand. Surface Laptop 5G supports robust connectivity across diverse environments and frequency bands used around the world, even in rural regions where network speeds may be lower.
At the core of this system is the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X62 5G modem, which supports both NanoSIM and eSIM and delivers consistent 5G NR (5G New Radio) speeds. The result is a highly integrated, enterprise-grade connectivity platform that balances performance, design, and durability, enabling Surface Laptop 5G for Business to meet the demands of mobile professionals without compromise.
AI at the edge, built into the device with Copilot+ PCs
Copilot+ PCs are Windows 11 PCs powered by a turbocharged neural processing unit (NPU) that can perform more than 40 trillion operations per second (TOPS). NPUs are specialized chips that process AI workloads on the device with high levels of performance and power efficiency, opening new possibilities for AI experiences and features that don’t always rely on cloud services.
Surface Laptop 5G for Business is a Copilot+ PC that runs on Intel® Core™ Ultra (Series 2) processors with built-in NPUs delivering 40 or 48 TOPS of AI performance. Employees can use new Copilot+ PC features like Click to Do,[3] Recall,[4] Live Captions[5] and improved Windows Search[6] to stay in flow, reduce context switching, and interact more naturally with Windows and Microsoft 365 apps. These tools help people work smarter, whether they’re writing, designing, or collaborating.
Surface and other Copilot+ PCs are ushering in a new era of on-device AI by enabling local execution of powerful models through Windows AI Foundry. This platform combines the flexibility of the Azure AI Foundry model catalog with the performance of Windows ML, allowing developers to run open-source and custom models directly on the device using the latest processors from partners like Intel. Available models include Phi Silica, a small language model accessed locally via Windows AI APIs to power tasks like summarization, rewriting, and knowledge retrieval. Evaluators can be included in your code, allowing the application to alternate between utilizing AI models hosted in the cloud, which support scalability and cloud-based data access, and local AI models, which offer performance efficiency and localized data management. With AI built into the device, organizations gain more control over data, performance, and privacy while unlocking new levels of productivity. Check back in for more blogs about how businesses can accelerate AI transformation with Copilot+ PCs.
