We’re excited to announce that starting late August 2025, Microsoft 365 Business Premium customers will be eligible to purchase Microsoft 365 E5 Compliance as an add-on, bringing enterprise-grade capabilities to Microsoft 365 Business Premium customers, helping small and medium-sized businesses manage risk, protect sensitive data, and simplify compliance, all within a unified Microsoft experience. 

This add-on includes multiple Microsoft Purview solutions that are now available to SMBs including:

• Microsoft Purview Information Protection helps businesses classify, identify, and protect sensitive data at scale across Microsoft 365. With advanced data classification and auto-labeling, data will be labeled according to your needs. These labels persist with content, whether it’s shared internally or externally, to ensure consistent protection and visibility throughout the data lifecycle. Businesses can set policies to prevent accidental oversharing and ensure sensitive data is only accessible to authorized users. 


• Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention (DLP) provides policy-based controls for workloads like Teams, the device endpoint, and Microsoft 365 Copilot to help prevent the unintentional sharing of sensitive information like credit card numbers, health data, or intellectual property. DLP allows businesses to monitor and block risky actions without disrupting productivity. 


• Microsoft Purview eDiscovery (Premium) makes it easier for businesses to respond to internal investigations, legal holds, or compliance reviews. With integrated tools for search, hold, and export, legal and compliance teams can collaborate effectively without needing separate tools. 


• Microsoft Purview Insider Risk Management helps detect potential insider threats like data exfiltration or policy violations, using built-in behavioral analytics. With privacy by design, it enables businesses to act on risky behavior while maintaining employee trust and regulatory compliance. 


• Microsoft Purview Audit (Standard & Premium) delivers comprehensive audit logging and analytics to help businesses investigate suspicious activity and maintain regulatory readiness. Premium audit logs include detailed events like email reads, file access history, and user activity timelines, critical for incident response and forensic investigations.


• Microsoft Purview DSPM for AI helps organizations discover and assess AI usage within the organization. Start with helpful reports like the risky and unethical use of AI and prepare for Microsoft 365 Copilot deployment within the organization with the Data Risk Assessment.
