What’s New in Microsoft EDU webinar – August 2025
August 9, 2025[Launched] Generally Available: Private Application Gateway on Azure Application Gateway v2
August 9, 2025Hi, Insiders! I’m Vishnu Gogula, a Product Manager on the Office AI team. I’m excited to announce a new Microsoft 365 Copilot feature in Word for Windows and Word for the web that allows you to generate and listen to an audio overview of any document.
Listen to an audio overview of a document with Microsoft 365 Copilot in Word
We’re introducing a new and dynamic way to engage with your content – through audio! Microsoft 365 Copilot in Word for Windows and Word for the web can now create a podcast-like audio overview of a document, transforming it into a fun listening experience and making it fast and easy to gather information. Plus, you can speed up the audio, jump back or forward to key parts of the audio, pause the audio if you’re interrupted or need to step away, and even save the audio to OneDrive to listen to it later or share it with others.
How it works
- Open an existing document in Word on your Windows device, or navigate to Word for the web.
- Select the Copilot button in the Home tab at the top of your document.
- Select the suggested prompt about creating an audio overview, or type a prompt like “Generate an audio overview from this document.” After the audio has been created, you can use the audio player to set the listening speed, pause/play, or go back or forward.
NOTE: Currently, the document must be in English for this feature to work, and the audio will also be in English.
- To save the audio, select the More options (…) button, then select Save to OneDrive to save it in the default OneDrive folder.
- To return to an audio overview you’ve listened to already, select the Copilot menu icon, then select Chat history at the bottom of the pane.
Known limitations
- Audio overview is only supported in English right now, with more languages coming soon.
- Audio overview only works for online files that are in OneDrive and SharePoint, and not local files that are on your system or external drives.
- Files require a minimum of 100 words to generate an audio overview.
Availability
This feature is available to all Word for the web users, and Word for Windows users running Version 2506 (Build 18925.20138) or later, with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license (get more details on licenses for businesses).
Feedback
We would love to hear from you! Please submit your comments and feedback by selecting Help > Feedback in Word, or by using the Copilot thumbs up or down buttons.
