Effective October 14, 2025, Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 Team edition on Surface Hub v1 and Surface Hub 2S. After this date, these devices will no longer receive security updates, patches, or support, and the Microsoft Teams app will stop functioning. Now is the time to act to ensure your meeting spaces remain secure and fully operational.
Windows 10 Team edition on device notification
Customers who still have Surface Hub v1 or Surface Hub 2S devices running Windows 10 Team edition may have noticed a notification on their devices stating:
“Teams and the Migration Launcher app will stop working after October 14, 2025, when support for Windows 10 Team OS ends. Tap here to review upgrade options.”
We are posting this message proactively to ensure you are not caught off guard when Teams will no longer log into the service after October 14, 2025. Please note that there is no option to suppress or disable this notification.
For IT administrators who wish to proactively manage user communication and avoid end-user confusion, we recommend updating the background with a custom image that clearly informs your users of the upcoming change and assures them that a transition plan is in place. Here are steps to help you customize the welcome screen:
Local Configuration
- Save your desired background image to a USB flash drive and plug it into an available port on your Surface Hub.
- Launch the Settings app on Surface Hub and sign in with an Admin account.
- Navigate to Settings > Welcome Screen.
- Under Background for welcome screen, select Browse and choose your image from the USB flash drive.
- Your selected welcome screen will appear under Preview.

Remote Configuration
For remote deployment of the custom background, refer to the Surface Hub Local Management Settings.

1. Check your device OS and model
Confirm whether your Surface Hub device is running Windows 10 Team edition. This includes:
- Surface Hub v1 (only compatible with Windows 10 Team)
- Surface Hub 2S (eligible for upgrades)
2. Choose your transition path
Select the best path forward based on your device:
- Surface Hub v1: We recommend a hardware refresh to Surface Hub 3, as these devices will be fully unsupported after October 2025.
- Surface Hub 2S: Choose from:
- Upgrade to Surface Hub 3 with the Surface Hub 3 Compute Cartridge (preloaded with Windows 11-based Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows).
- Migrate to Teams Rooms on Windows using our Surface Hub 2S migration offering. This free offer is only valid until October 14, 2025.
- Switch to Windows 11 Pro/Enterprise if the device is used in personal office scenarios.
3. Stay up to date
- Start your migration or upgrade early to avoid last-minute disruptions
- Review the latest Surface Hub 3 enhancements (Edge integration, Miracast support)
- Work with your Microsoft account team or Surface reseller to build a transition plan
